Chloë Hugo-Hamman is an artist and teacher who lives and works in Cape Town. She works across drawing, textiles and sculpture. Her work gives form to psychological worlds that are difficult to put into words. Using colour, repeated marks and hand-stitched textiles she explores how inner experience is shaped by social and cultural structures. In doing so, she creates space to question existing systems and consider different ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
Her work has been exhibited at Whatiftheworld in Cape Town, FNB Art Joburg and Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm. She holds a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Cape Town, a Master of Fine Art from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Cape Town.

Chloë Hugo-Hamman (b.1983) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Her work looks to
embodied scars and illness, specifically linking “mental illness” and gender and reframes these western pathologies
as rather paths or maps to new worlds which offer more livable futures. In these dream worlds she layers texture,
line and colour in the form of sewing, drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, installation and performance.
She holds a degree in architecture from the University of Cape Town (UCT), a Masters in Fine Art from the University of the Witwatersrand
and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from UCT.
